Aloe emodin is an anthraquinone compound with a chemical formula of C15H10O5. It is mainly derived from Rheum palmatumL, Rheum tanguticum Maxim.ex Balf, or Rheum officinale. Baill) dry roots and rhizomes.

Aloe emodin is the antibacterial active ingredient of rhubarb. The bacteria that are sensitive to it are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and diphtheria, subtilis, anthracnose, paratyphoid and dysentery, among which Staphylococcus and Streptococcus are the most sensitive. Aloe emodin also has the function of inhibiting the biosynthesis of DNA, RNA and protein of cancer cells.
