Hyaluronic Acid Benefits

Before I tell you how to make a DIY hyaluronic acid serum, it's a good idea to explain what hyaluronic acid is and why serums are such an important part of my skincare routine.

Moisturizing - Hyaluronic acid absorbs moisture into the skin and helps maintain it.
Soothing - Great for irritated skin. This serum is perfect for rolling, dry brushing, microdermabrasion or anytime your skin needs extra care and care.
Protection - While you can barely feel it on your skin once absorbed (other than your skin feeling smoother), the Hydrating Serum still provides a great barrier against environmental damage to your skin.
Healing - Supports wound healing by promoting the growth of new skin cells. In this study, it was shown to aid in the healing of deep wounds.
Anti-Aging - Hyaluronic Acid Serum helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles in addition to the above benefits, which also aids in anti-aging skin care.

The magic of hyaluronic acid

When added to water, hyaluronic acid works wonders on its own - it creates a gel.

This is so cool.

Apart from...

...with insufficient water, the gel will become very, very, very lumpy and very, very, very hard.

In fact, it gets so stiff and clumpy that it becomes impossible to fully incorporate it into the lotion, and you might as well stop cursing, toss the mixture, and start over.

How to use hyaluronic acid as a gel

Measure out the desired dose and add to the final stage (below 40 C). Stir until fully incorporated.

How to use hyaluronic acid as a powder

Add the desired dose to demineralized water. Stir to dissolve. cover. Rest for 10-30 minutes. Add to your lotion at the final stage (below 40 C).

Here's the fun part: finding the amount of water. One of my suppliers suggested adding 0.5% powder to 100ml of water.

This means that if you're making a 100ml product, if you want a 0.5% dose, there won't be any other room in the mix.

So I've been trying to figure this out - keeping water to a minimum without sacrificing viscosity.

Tip: If you decide to use hydrosol instead of water, be prepared for many different reactions. This is a path you probably don't want to take unless you have the funds at your disposal.

Alternative powder method

There is another way when using powder. One of my suppliers suggested that the desired dose can be added directly to the final product.
